D-100 Brittany is already celebrating

  • With 100 days to go until the Grand Départ Bretagne 2025 of the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift, riders, elected officials and representatives of the event launched the countdown in Vannes, Quimper and Brest.
  • “The first stage will be on my training roads, where I ride all the time”, says Maurène Trégouët, a rising Breton rider with Arkéa-B&B Hotels Woman.
  • “These territories have given birth to great champions and I can't wait to see a new generation cheering on the peloton”, says Marion Rousse.

The rendezvous, announced almost a year ago, is approaching: the Grand Départ Bretagne 2025 of the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift will be celebrated in 100 days. As the event expands from eight to nine stages, the Breton public and spectators from all over the world will enjoy a whole weekend of celebrations as the stars of the women's peloton begin their race for the summits. On Saturday 26 July, the punchiest riders will have their say between Vannes and Plumelec, before a second stage more favourable to sprinters, from Brest to Quimper. The peloton will then leave Brittany on Monday 28 July, setting off from La Gacilly and heading east towards Angers.

With just over three months to go, excitement is mounting. It was evident during the events organised on Thursday 17 April, from Vannes to Brest via Quimper, to already feel the atmosphere of the Grand Départ Bretagne 2025. Accompanied by local champion Maurène Trégouët and by elected representatives from the communities hosting the event, the director of the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift Marion Rousse and the race director Franck Perque began the day at Vannes town hall, which was adorned with a giant Maillot Jaune.

In the presence of the president of the Brittany Region Loïg Chesnais-Girard, the president of the Morbihan Departmental Council David Lappartient, and the mayor of Vannes David Robo, they headed to the port, where the start of the first stage will take place. A totem pole was unveiled there. It symbolises the countdown to Saturday 26 July and the opening battles en route to Plumelec, which hosted the Grand Départ of the 1985 Tour de France.

The day continued in Quimper, the destination on the second day of racing. After the presentation of the Finistère stage of the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift 2025, a visit to the Printemps de Creac'h Gwen emphasised the link between major events and cycling for all, starting with the youth.   The last stage of this 100-day countdown takes place in Brest, where the last two Grand Départs of the Tour de France in Brittany were held (2008, 2021). Last time, Julian Alaphilippe took the Maillot Jaune in Landerneau. Who will shine at the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift? The answer will come in 100 days.

Marion Rousse, director of the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift:

“Brittany is a land of cycling passion, which is experienced on a daily basis and will be fully expressed on the occasion of the Grand Départ of the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift 2025. From Saturday to Monday, tens of thousands of spectators will be able to support the local champions and international stars as they set off on the world's greatest race. The first stage will take place in Morbihan, the second in Finistère and the third will cross Ille-et-Vilaine before leaving Brittany, where we’ll undoubtably witness spectacular racing. These territories have given birth to great champions and I can't wait to see a new generation cheering on the peloton.”

Maurène Trégouët, Arkéa-B&B Hotels Woman rider:

“I was born in Ploërmel and I live in Lizio, with my parents. It's ten kilometres from Plumelec and the Côte de Cadoudal, so the first stage will be on my training roads, where I ride all the time! My family is excited, my friends too. I've been talking to them about cycling for a while now, about the races I do... Whether I take part or not, since I'm still young, they'll all be there. In Brittany, we love cycling. And everyone knows about the Tour, even if they're not into sports. I remember going to Vannes for the start of a time trial in 2015. I wasn't thinking about a professional career yet and it opened my eyes to this world. I want to tell young girls, especially those who don't do sports, to come and see this event. It's the biggest race in the world, the most demanding, and to take part in it would be an immense pride.”

Loïg Chesnais-Girard, president of the Brittany Region:

“After seeing the Tour de France set off from Brest four years ago, in 2021, we are very happy and particularly proud to team up again with several authorities of Brittany to kick off the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift this time. Hosting the first three stages of this 2025 edition will be one of the major events of the summer and the year in Brittany, a land of cycling, values and volunteers. This is a gift to all those who love cycling. The Grand Départ Bretagne is a fantastic showcase for women's cycling and yet another opportunity to experience wonderful moments of sport, sharing and emotion. Personally, I want this love story between cycling and Brittany also involves women. And this is already the case with the first inspiring chapters written by Audrey Cordon-Ragot and Cédrine Kerbaol.”

David Robo, mayor of Vannes:

“The Grand Départ of the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift 2025 is a major event for cycling, but it is also a milestone for equality in sport and for our magnificent city. Vannes is ready to host this great popular celebration and invites the whole world to join us on 26 July. So long live sport! Long live cycling! Long live Brittany! Long live Vannes!”

David Lappartient, president of the Department of Morbihan:

“True to its identity, Morbihan is very proud to see two stages of the 2025 edition of the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift pass through its territory. Women's cycling, which is both daring and inspiring, perfectly embodies the values of Morbihan: courage, determination and a passion for sport. Our department, with its long cycling tradition, has always been a welcoming place for these major events and you can count on our commitment to make this edition a success. On 19 May, I will be doing a recon of the Vannes-Plumelec route by bike, together with several elected representatives and the department's road agents. I invite all cycling enthusiasts to join us in experiencing this great moment on our roads and to give their enthusiastic support to all the athletes who are making us so proud.”
