Brest and Cycling

The launch pad for the Tour de France for men on four occasions since the Second World War (1952, 1974, 2008 and 2021), Brest is also a stronghold of women's cycling, being the birthplace of Cédrine Kerbaol, the first Frenchwoman to win a stage of the Tour de France for women, as well as Maëva Squiban, who came close to emulating her one day later.
2021: Grand Start host. Julian Alaphilippe won the first stage to Landerneau.
Before WWII: the Tour visited 23 times between 1906 and 1939. Garrigou and Pélissier won three times each.
1952: Start of first stage to Rennes, won by Rik Van Steenbergen.
1974: Eddy Merckx won the prologue.
2008: Alejandro Valverde won first stage to Plumelec.
