The history

Six years after its inception, the Skil-Shimano team launched a women's team in 2011 called Skil-Kolga, which grew in tandem with the men's team. Kirsten Wild, the Dutch rider with 109 road victories and nine world titles on the track, delivered the team's first major wins in 2013, at the Tour of Qatar and Ghent-Wevelgem, when the team was still known as Giant-Shimano. Its name differed from the men's team in 2015 and 2016 (Liv-Plantur), but this was only a superficial change, as Liv and Plantur are owned by the Giant Group (a cycling giant) and the shampoo brand Alpecin, respectively, the two main sponsors of the men's team.

The affiliation has been much clearer for the past eight years with the return to a familiar name: Sunweb, then DSM, dsm-firmeminch PostNL and now Picnic PostNL, the names of a mobile supermarket and Dutch mail delivery service. The team reached its peak in 2017, winning the world team time trial championship in Bergen and finishing second in the UCI rankings, thanks in particular to European time trial champion Ellen van Dijk, who then left to join Lidl-Trek. The team has remained at the top of the world rankings ever since. Lorena Wiebes, the first woman to wear the Yellow Jersey in the 2022 Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift, made her mark in the bunch sprints before joining SD Worx-Protime. But another great sprinter has taken her place, Charlotte Kool, who won the first two stages of last year's Grand Départ in the Netherlands. The Dutch team finished in the top 10 in the first three editions of the Tour thanks to Juliette Labous (4th, 5th and 9th). The departure of the 2024 French champion to FDJ-Suez leaves them without a clear contender for the overall podium.
