The Côte de la Stèle (5.4km at 5%) is tackled right from the start and might tempt the freshest of the breakaway specialists to try their luck on what’s the eighth day of racing. That would give them the opportunity work out who’s the strongest in the group on the rolling roads of the department of Puy-de-Dôme or, ultimately, on the Côte de Charade (6km at 5.9%). Beyond that climb, as the riders leave the motor racing circuit, there’s a short but punchy ramp leading up to the finish, where there might be a bit of a contest between the overall contenders.
