Amnéville’s link with professional cycling may be limited to it being a stage town for the Circuit des Mines, but it’s a notable sporting town nevertheless. The birthplace of France’s ex-international footballer Patrick Battiston, its former steelmaking precincts in the Coulange forest have been transformed into a spa and leisure resort, featuring a SnowWorld (indoor ski slopes), an Olympic swimming pool and ice rink, an 18-hole golf course and an e-sports complex. Its six million annual visitors are also drawn to the 12,000-seat Galaxie theatre and the huge Amnéville zoo.
