The locals will well remember the Tour’s first stop in their town: it was in 2020, for the start of the time trial that would prove to be the race’s decisive turning point, as Tadej Pogacar took definitive control of the Yellow Jersey thanks to a great exploit at the top of La Planche des Belles Filles. But the town renowned for Sapper Camember, one of the first comic book characters, who was created in 1890 by Georges Colomb, and also for being the birthplace of Thibaut Pinot, has already welcomed the elite of women’s cycling, in 1988, when the Tour Féminin set off for Besançon, where Dutchwoman Monique Knol was the stage winner.
