The first professional to win in Belleville was Laurent Fignon, on a stage of the Critérium du Dauphiné in 1986. Paris-Nice has subsequently stopped here regularly, with Thomas Voeckler managing to break the hegemony of the sprinters (Fabio Baldato, Robbie McEwen, Tom Boonen...) at this finish in 2011. The Critérium du Dauphiné returned in 2018 (victory going to Germany’s Pascal Ackermann), while the Tour de France made its first stop in Belleville-en- Beaujolais in 2023, when Jon Izagirre was the solo victor.
