Sub-prefecture of Marne (51)

The city where the kings of France had their coronation also crowned the first queen of road cycling: it was indeed at the motor-racing circuit in Reims where Luxembourg’s Elsy Jacobs became the first winner of the women’s world championship in 1958. The homeland of another rainbow jersey winner, Pauline Ferrand-Prévot, has also been propitious terrain for Tour sprinters. The names of the last four riders to have won a stage here and savour the delicious glass of Champagne that inevitably goes with it are proof of that: Djamolidine Abdoujaparov (1991), Robbie McEwen (2002), Alessandro Petacchi (2010) and André Greipel (2014).
