Geneva, which first appeared on the Tour de France route in 1913, was a regular stage town during the inter-war years. Visits have been rarer since then, the last one dating back to 1990 when Italian Massimo Ghirotto was the victor. Cycling began in Calvin’s home city back in 1879 with the inaugural edition of the Tour du Lac Léman, and has subsequently remained a fixture here, most recently on a stage of the 2022 Critérium du Dauphiné and, last spring, the Tour de Romandie’s time trial.
